REAR   WINDOW
(remembering  Hitchcock's)
My  rear  window  here,  where  now  live
open-wide  towards  G.T  Road
-that historical one ,  linking India  to  outside  West


I  sit  for  some  time   and  watch  a living World
the  road  so many  centuries old  now
Old  and  new  and  all mixed  up  seem --unified  some how
Cart , cycles,  Autos  motor  cars  al  ltypes and  crwded bus
Kniting   cenuries  like a  woolen shawl with  all  shades  and  patterns
 I  see  engrossed  the  India -whole --old-new,  rich  and  poor
 more  people  walking   up  or  down  within  a  single  frame   combined
 Even a    the  stray  dog that  i  look  upon as pet
as  some tmes  I  feed  the  dog  some  bisuits  and it follows  my  way
wagging  its  tail  to  approve my  action  perhaps

Seem  I  am  now  even one  with  them  in  this  subarban life
 and  the  half- clad  boy  about en years  old
 collecting  useful  things  from near
 Searching  garbage  and  colecting things  that  have  salable  value  some sort
 yet  I  find  him  whisting ,  singing , enjoying  even  his  status  as such
Yes  he  is  a  child-  labor , may be  self-employed.   true
 I  look and  think  or think  and  look and  brood  on  deeper  issue.

The  face  of this  new  Century  seem  to   me  so much  uncertain  more
I   learn  so much  through  my  REAR  Window  about  life ,  living  all  the  more !

GET    CONNECTED

Though ,  most  difficult  to  achieve
yet,  not  difficult  to  understand
not  even  easy , if  not  made  that way
like   dealing  with  PC of  Modern  time. .

Should not  puzzle  you  or  me , I think

the  UNIVERSE even   beyond  is  just a few  'Clicks'  away'.

Like  wise ,  getting   connected  through  our SOUL
can travel  beyond  , even t  to   our  final  Goal  ; the  Divine !

anything  much   to do with the real   essence  of   poetry

 Fashion  and  Make-up  is  not  the  health  of  a Lady
nor the  dancing  rhythm the  beauty  of   a poem
It is the  inside  essence  or  content of  the   POETRY
 the  real  verse   and reflective  portrait of Poet  himself

Poetry  is  a  poem  with  essence  within
 sowed  within SOUL   and   fragrance  for  all

 Victor  Hugo , Tolstoy were , as  much great ,  poets
Play-write   Shakespeare ,   the gem  of a  poet,--even  now

 Poetry  must  of  the  inside -essence ---first
like  flower-fragrance   ,  permeate  unto  , more  of us
God  was  declared a  KAVI  (  Poet)  , the  reason  for
 God  can   see  and  know  beyond  TIME  and ;  SPACE

Yes , POETRY is  neither  Synatax  , nor  rhyme  alone

OCEANIC   LOVE

What  a  Romantic  sight  !
Standing  on your  BEACH;  meeting  face  to face
Eye to  eye   like  some  Lovers'-  meet ;   this lucky  early  morn
witness ; -----the  rising  Sun !
 My ever first  meeting   YOU  ,  my  OCEANIC  LOVE  !
 The  thrill  , the joy  of meeting  thus
 yet  ye are  so  vast ! ---stretching  thyself  so much  !-- unto the  horizon- SKY
 What  a  great  surprise  !
 At  a  distance   far  beyond;  the  coconut -  garland  green,-- like pearls
round your  neck ; ----what a  sight !
 with  rising  Sun  , like   vemilion -treat  on thy  glowing  forehead
 my  OCEAN ;  my  LOVE  !

Yet   afar  and beyond
the  waves  are  groaning   beyond and  breaks  on land --but why
 is  it some  pending  grief ;  some  lamenting  loud   in-spite ?
 As if , the  whole  sub-continent  is  weeping  , --sick
 What  a  resounding  grief
 Do  you  want  that  we the  human-s  too
  be  so vast  and  deep  as  you !

Listen  dear ;  listen  to me
 why  you  don't understand  this  much
 being  or  reamaing  like  you, --through out  Life
 was never  gifted  to  us  by the   Divine
 Look there  on your  lap ---helpless  struggling  Fisher-men
 sharp  and  determined  in their  Fishing -search
 like  the  mythcal  Arjun,,-- pin -pointed aim
 yet their fate  and  boats  get  sunk by    stormy  ruthless wind.


Now  there  , on your  Oceanic  horizon  rise  your  promising  Sun
 And  this  World  would be   so much  blessed , --if  we  got
 a   glorious  SON ,---like yours  !

Part  V

In reminiscence , sometimes , I look  back  for  some  precious  love  I left  behind 

as if   some  young  deer,   looking  often, back for  her lost  mother  somewhere

 Once in  young life, I  was  forced  to leave  behind  my  root  and  Mother- Land

 even  , for  my  synthetic  Freedom ,  some kind, on  Bay of Bengal side ---- 

  a  tragic  Political  Finish !

  While writing  you all these,  some  other  thoughts  too  crowd in me

 My childhood was  full and  a  happy gift  to me 

 though  we  never  had   a  rich  mammon life  or   anything  alike .

I  and my  Childhood - river ,  to  me , Ocean wide 

 holding  my mother's  hand , I  even  would dream of    Oceanic  Voyage  some day !
Those white sailing  clouds   sliding across the  sky

 the  distant   boats  with  puffed in sails  and   boat-men's  song

 sailing  for  dream- land , --remained  ever  un-known  to me 

 Where  for they  were  sailing, ---  was never  my  job to know .

My  only  treasure-thought  was , I know :

Beyond the  river  was, -- my  Maternal Uncle's  House , that I  came to  now --and 

 where   all my  play-things  were  eagerly  waiting  for  me  !

Memory  and  feeling  have  no  reign or  restrain ; nor  are chained .

nor  any Road- maps  on their  wings 

And now   ----to day,   I  am  a  Urban  Man 

 this  story  I  shall  tell   some day --and 

elsewhere .

Part  IV

All these  mutterings , like  soliloquy, may  not   reach  many  souls
Now,   friends  let me know -, to  console , -I  am  well established  now
have  some  positions, worthy name --even  bits  of  fame
some  success , even   influence , perhaps
 yet  my  investments  all , play , often  tricks with me --as  if
I  am  some  pawn ,   even  some knight -- on chess-Board, -  still useful to  some !

My  floating mind, my  feelings  fear  no  leash  , no chain
  and  sometimes  these  days ,  I am  not  writing   anything
  And for  quite  some  time ,   now , I  have  no  appetite  for  Art  or  sculpture, too
even  for  poems  are.  receeding   silently    sometime , --when  like  addict
 I  used  to  roam in wild  fr   finding  out  hiding   expressions in  dead wood
with  cracks , bend , even holes , even  worm-eaten  and  coded  message !

 Sir , mr  Editor , please  tell me  now
 Is there  any  sense  in your  asking for  Long  poem from  me
 Or  should    the  long  poem , ever, be  very  long  indeed
 Or  to ask you  in another way, --getting  long  to longer
does  a  very  long  poem ever  remain , really , POEM ?
And ,  I  admit  ---ihad  no long  poem  before  you  asked  for  it

Lie  an introver snail,  slow  and shy , i  ever desire  to  express
 in  Comprssion  or  live  for  shor, --like  a  mornig  blossom
 getting  shrivelled  by  summer  heat!
 that   why   I  mostly  prefer  to express myself --in lyric  !

Part III
Once  in  childhood , my grandmother,  putting  her  bless-full   hand  on my  head
told  me --that ,  I  had  no  chance  of  being  alive as :
on the Seventh  month of  life I  was ' declared  Dead'(almost) and
my  eldest  uncle  was waiting--------------------------
after  digging  my  burial  pit  on our  canal side, counting my  gasping  last
but  I  eluded  DEATH  and am  living  now
I am LIVING  now !;  Really ?!
This  very  thought  is  so much  amusing  to  me--and
 more many times  in my  life  I  have searched the  meaning  of  the word  --"Living"
 in   Dictionary  of   every  shelf , far and wide  and  even  today
I  do not  know  the   Real   meaning  of  the  word --" Living "
 nor  found  clear  cut  meaning   in  books , all over  the World , --I  roamed .

The  wild  horse --Memory ,respect  no  reign or  whip
yet  life  has   allowed  me  travel , --all  over   the   World -almost
 And  I  remember  most , - my  maternal Uncle's  house,  my  childhood  World
 on  river -bank side.
 No they were   not  rich but  had  a  very  wide  River rear their  house !
 Even  unto  boyhood , I  walked  alone  , to  that  River -bank
 and  looked  and  looked  ,-spell-bound !  - at the  milk-white  floating  clouds , in white
on the  light-blue   endless sky;
The  boat-men  sailing  with packed  air in sail, while  singing
 in deep  sonorous  voice ,-- those  **'Vaatiaalee'  songs. affecting me  so  much
 though  that was not  the  age , to  grasp  any meaning  of their  songs  !
Yet, the  musing  stereo  voice  would  covey  so much  with no need  of  meaning , any kind
and --with  a  back drop  of  silvery  dancing  river, the   flying  cloud , the  bluish  vast  sky
boatmen so much  alive in  songs  !
 Even  to day, I can  smell that  earhly  muddy  smell  betwix my hands
 That river ,  even to-day , comes often in my dream-
 And---------------------
that  fullness  of  my  childhood happy  life
was snatched  and  but
chered  by  mamon  and Shylock  greed
 of  our  Political   Dice-game  and the  WORLD War  II. !
and  severed  my  Mother-land  into   TWO  ! !

THE   LOG--LONG   POEM :      Part  II

Long  long  years , that  I  had  visirtd  "CORBET"-  Park
yet  after  longer  years  in Capital-city life
have  no  further   desire  to  see ' Animal - World'.

In  the  beginning,  I  told -- mind  and  feeling  have  no  restraining  reign
  I  love  to  think  deep  on  every  issue  or  type
but can  hardly  come  to a  final  conclusion  on  subjects   pressing  on me
 Since  childhood,--  I  loved    and anted to  know more  about poems
 Friend , even  now  tell  me  , --I  could  have  been  a great  Doctor.
others  admire  me    more as  an  Artist , that is -a   Wastewood  Sculptor
 yet  I  always  conclude ; --nothing  matters  , any way  and  I
 don't  care  to be  anything  but  happy  as  I  want  to feel.
 And , even  brooding  over  these , has  no  meaning , I also feel.

For  last  two days ,  it rained  incessant  and heavy
now, the neighboring  roads and  lanes --all  swimming  or  drowned
 plenty  of  ditches  have  been promoted  to pools
Man- holes  are  now  hiding  like  planned  Death-traps
Now on   rural  landscape,  grains  and  wheat  are  almost  lost
 All  these  are events  and   are   broad-cast  on daily  basis
And  yet , to  write  a   Long poem , --all these  details  beg  entry   in my  lines
 and yet ,  to be  a  Poet, I  have  to  practice   more 'Compression ' --I  know
even  though  to  deatail them   --I , had  to travel  so  much !

LONG  - LONG   POEM

( 1980-s :  Some Editor   of  a  Magazine (DELHI)  requested  me for  a  Long  POEM  and   I  tried .
 Long poem  is  not  , usually  my  own choice .  .....Transliterated  from Original  Bengali  ..now )

 Mind  and  feelings  have  no  restraining   belt
 as Tribals /  Aborigins  have no   concrete   steps
 or  cemented  Foot-Path
 I , though , have  lots  of  thoughts  and  feelings
yet  , they  have no restraining  straps   --for me

Just  now,---I  am  on  an  arm-chair on my  balcony
and have  built-up  an  environment of  my own   choice
As  a  person , my  friends  think  of  me as a  many  sided ' some-one' --
 though  I  know , I  have  not  even   'any--sided '  skill  or  desire , as  much .

Many  years  now , I  am  living  in the capital  city
 At  a  distance  , -a  crossroad :    I view  the life of  metropolis
and  even the  commercial life  of  a  local market
I look and  enjoy  and even can  feel  --
 Quite  far a  wild tree  blocking the  sunset -view
My  tea  in   the  cup  is  now cold  by  distraction of mind
 Like  the   expended  leaf  of a  Calender,-- I even , some times  feel  of  myself
-a bit ' out-dated'  or   off  the  modern -life . .
 The  time-bitten  cover  of the  book beside  me,
 with  fading face  of  some  famous   writer   of   yesterdays
teaches   me   now  , --all  about  Entropy .

 Yester night ,  for  two    long  hours  the  light  went  off
 Load-shading   night
 Now the  dark-nights  can't  frighten me  any more
Rather  ,  I  am  scared  of  noisy  , crowded  city -life  , these days !

Part      II

Yet  some  'Bonus  gift' is  there ;  the  noon-time  Sun-shine  dropping  down --or
 a slice of   dusty  sky  and  greatest  of all  --the  moon ,  --if weather is  kind.
 When it  is  deep night  the neighbor- ones   drunk,  crowd  near the  gas-light;  they  shout  they  cry  --they weep , even  laugh  and some times  , demanding  all that  they  lost  in lfe.
 At least  some  engaging  change ; not bad ,--- perhaps !
 Thinking  about  my  aging  girl,  I raise  my  voice  and  sing  some   spiritual  songs
 from  Scripture . -- the   mean of  which is  even  beyond  me !
Even recite from  Bible, --what  Jesus  once,    said  about what ,,,,
 Maybe  my  daughter  is  not  listening  or  she  may  be  cleaning  elsewhere !

But  the  worst  enemy of  all --now  I find  --is the  Moon,-- that  peeps through
 like  some  whore  
 That  is  when  when  I  am  so much lost  ---for
 my  worn- out  poetic  soul is  not  dead   yet  I  perceive  now  !

A pack  children  alaround me ,-  sleeping  and   some  snoring, in-spite of  my sleepless  state
My  manual - working wife  now  sleeping like a  log ;  Even  though  myself  need  some more  sleep  to  face the  spineless  tomorrow, --hard !
 worst of all , we  both ,me  and  my daughter   staring at the  moon  -searching what !
 Sudenly  the  time  incites  me  to recite   more  of  Jesus  from  Mathews  quote
 Did  I  say, ever,  before---this  15 -dollar Rent is  good ; --I  deny
 That  Moon  now  seems  my  worst of enemies   and  some  day  may
  push  my  daughter  to  some  unfortunate  , dreadful  fate !

yet   dark Night  dominates rthe  night and   I  lament  often times
 This 15 - dollar - rooms  are  priced  too high and  even  my dauhter  agees  with me , at times
 and   I jump up  to my legs  and  start singing  some   Scriptural  songs
 the  meaning of which  is  not even  clear   to  me  , unto this  time !

No bad ---not  at all  bad
why  say -' not bad '  !  --it's  good,really good
Twor-room set  for  15 dollars  per  month
even though  on a blind  lane but  yes, --quite good
Or -  what ?   For that  rent, ---do you  expect
some  princely  bedrooms for cozy  life  , --eh ?
quite good  the rooms at  dollar  fifteen  per month.

Only  that  high-packed  darkness  squeezed  within
yet that slit-size  window inspires  hope -- for  my  past  -time  view
really  !  ---this throttling  recision days
 the    price -rise , this cost  of  living  flying hogh
 even  the   godowns  are  temptations  much !
 All the  time ,- the  half -fed  class , the  *BPL  come and  que  up
 desiring  rent ;  even if  they  have  to  bribe  sometimes
Or , otherwise, the  threatening  winter  advancing  now
or the  summer-time  heat, monsoon- rain  and flood , --will be too  much
 death  some time  eyeing  on  starving  children  around and then
advance like  desert wind .
 Fathers  return to  violence or become mean . even  deceive
  mothers  buy  some  model-skirts  and  make their daughter wear it
 then as  evening  slides;  sensual  flesh is  auctioned  many  ways  and time

This  now , quite  some  different time ;  Realtor- business --miniscule  type
 Even  if , backyaed  or covered  space, ---can fetch  so much  price
any one  getting  it ---a welcome  gain !

And  yet  on this  blind lane , -- outside the  window here
heaps  of  garbage   piling  up for days and  the  stinking  smell
 And  what  coincides  more, --comig  out  of the  naked  boy to  defecate
 Enven  that's  O.k  but  the  municipal  limping  bull frightening  all
 or more  menaceful --the  local  biped goons  staring  at  my daughter  often times
 Measuring  the  price of  curatain  cloth  these  days , I  plan  a compromise
wish  the  goons -' good morning, and ask -'how are  you  all, --my  friends ?

 " LOOK   BACK   IN ANGER "

Bharat , that  was  given a  name - India-  a  Greek Slang , I  believe
That  goes  2 millenium  back  in time .
Then came the  Persian Invaders- imposed  on us , Hindu, Hindustan, Hinduism  all
The  geographical  notations and the  slavish  mentality of our ancestors accepted  all
and,- put as  garland of honor around  their  neck , with  ignorance  packed in head.
For there  was no  " Boston  Tea Party ' ever  known  to them except  Copy -cat  spirit, carried over , even unto  now!

 Then , I think,  Some  GANDHI, smart  &  sharp
Got  the   freedom  through  back-door  and as  aftermath  of  WorldWar II
Without  real  scrifice  , I think ,  save  and except  communal  killings  more  at  BPL -level of  over-populated  life!

 Now  is the RULE  of  Vultures , Falcons  and carnivorous  greed
 and  foxes , Hyenas , leopards  in  disguise  of' Political -fathers',
I  think
 on either  side  with ever-changing  Mask and   at  the  top
 an  inept  docile  , appointed  signing POLITICAL-ASSISTANT
 hoarding   and giving all  Corrupts, of either  side
a free  hand  and now
 needs  an EXIT sharp , I think ; If  I  have  any  such  right .

Anything  that  happens  in a poet's  life , is not  for  readers  to  know
Anyway, and  long  after , I desired  some  times  to  meet   the  Ocean  sometimes  some where
 where  azure    SKY , bending  down  ,  kisses  the  the  Horizon- lips  of  Ocean  beyond !
Where  the  morning  SUN , like  vermilion- dot  on the  forehead of a Hindu  married   Girl
dazzles  bright  !
Where    myriad  of  love-sick   Sea-waves  dance  like  wild  playful    up-surge !

Even  other wise , I dreamt  of so many  ways of romantic voyage  --like
my  climbing  to  Himalayan Range and  height ,   where  the  cerulean   eye  of  sky
like lover's look --- invites !
Or, where the height and  peak ,  like  young  lovers  offering  bosom,-   bold  and  pure  like  temple -crown ,  ever  expressive    of  loving  Life !

After  all these  romantic  dreams  in life , my  travelling   path   ever  pulls me  and  distract !
 yet  I  do not  know :
Like my   childhood   playmates
like the  restless  dreams  of  boyhood
like  the  failures  of a young  lovers  life
or, like the  introvert  obstinacy  and  contracting  way  of mine
in my  next  voyage  --some  day or in  any  other  way
will lead  me  to  any  of   my  desired  destination
 Or , shall  ever  not  !

BALLAD  OF  MY    YOUNG   LIFE
Part  I of  2

In childhood , -- playmates  came  but I was  introvert  boy
they all got fed up  and  left , then   went their  self -planned way
 I never tried  to  get  them  back  ,  i was  of a rural  set up
even  , otherwise  those  I   sought as friends , did  not like  my ways
with failure, set backs  , I came back  and  remained on my ever to myself
Since , neither I  found  them  nor , ever,  they  sought  me out.
While  growing  as  a  boy, I  with my  bow,  arrows  and  sling
the  birds , the  fruits  or  any thing  I  aimed ; I  played  with  any thing
 the  fruits, even , refused  to respect  my aim and the  bird  never  honored  my skill !

Then almost as a  young , grown,  on  my  mufassil  road
 the  girl ! ; --the  girl  ,-pasted on  road  side  window , even  a little  bold
looked  and  wanted  to let  me know - her  presence  with looks and smile
but  ever failed , as i was   tongue-tied and , rural and shy
 even   otherwise ,  not  being  a beauty , she  could  not  attract  me  much
I  even  told  my  friends  about  her   shapeless Face  and made , even  some  jokes
 Maybe, with  defeated  love  and  her  tears  joined  rose to,   floating  high
  enriched  made them  darkening  clouds , to  weep  down like  monsoon rain
 no 1  that  was  not the  age  to  remember   or  any way, sympathise !

A few  steps  forward  on  advancing  life --some  young   girls    allured  me
even  some ' dream -girls' from  rich   windows, -  played   me  kite- like , I admit
 I  flew  high, or  whirl round  , even  fell down   or was  dropped
 their  romantic  Past-time played their ways and  i was not  settled  any where
 and  my  frustration,  my  failures  like  expanding  summer  drought
 affected  also  my  dream and desire ,; nothing  happened  any when ,- as thought   !

THIRD   WORLD

Load  shading   --ferequent
both in  slums  and  neighboring  township
almost on equity-terms
Like  equality  of marxism  a renewed  Cast .

 Yet  this  city  of joy
 crowded  on  EQUITY  terms.
 Somewhere   in scattered   corners
 with  dreams  of  affluence  like  nymph  half clad,--  waits
the  sensual  desire  of  metropolis  meet
all husbands , wives or  maybe  dreaming   brides !

The   successful  writers  of  Fictions ,  collecting  borrowed  thoughts
fron   National  Library , most often , I  think
now  prowling or  searching  for  fans  or is  dominating  BOOK-Fair  shades!

yet  the  funeral   spread  of  noisy  City-life
with make -up   or  fake  poise   dominate  time
and   thereclined  evening  still   muttering
---' who  the  Murderer  was' !

THE   POET    RETURNS
( Transliterated of  Bengali poem  of  19.Nov.2008)

 And
 I  return  --again , -to my  Love

You , all must  have  thought
 it was  my extinction --or  Self --immolation
but  in reality
 it was  a  Travel  or Emigration
 Or  -  you may  name  it --even
Self-Exile .

Yes, --I return  again
 with studded   mindfull  thoughts
 compressed  and packed  within  soul ,-- inside
almost  suffocating---and  in  final  release
of  an exploding  volcano
 unto  endless   sky !

For  fifteen year -plus
was  away    from  my  native - tongue
do not  conclude  on that term
 that  I  am   finished  for  rest  of life .

So !,  at  last, --  I  return  --or , may  say
Come  Back  .
